- The Gulf Titan shall consist of the following eight tournaments in the Gulf of Mexico:
- Orange Beach Billfish Classic
- Gulf Coast Masters
- Cajun Canyons
- Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic
- Emerald Coast Billfish Classic
- Bay Point Billfish Open
- Blue Marlin Grand Championship
- Mobile Big Game Fishing Club Labor Day Tournament
If any of the tournaments listed above have less than 25 boats participating the tournament will be disqualified.
- Participants may enter at any time prior to the first tournament, and any time afterwards. However, if a participant enters during the fishing hours of any one tournament any fish caught during said tournament will not qualify. Any fish a participant caught previous to their entry will not qualify.
- The Gulf Titan consist of two divisions, catch and release and kill. Participants may enter the kill (heaviest blue marlin) division, the catch and release division, or both. Base entry amount is $3,000.00 for kill division and $3,000.00 for catch and release division. The base entry ($3,000.00) pays to one place (winner take all). Participants may also enter either or both of the optional divisions. The two optional divisions are $5,000.00 for kill division and $5,000.00 for catch and release division. These optional divisions will pay out first and second place, 70% and 30%. In order to enter the $5,000.00 optional for kill or release, participants are required to be entered in the respective $3,000.00 base entry. In the event of one fish being weighed, if the registered boat is in the kill division $5,000.00 optional, that boat will win the entire pot. Optional entries for the kill division will be refunded if no blue marlin are weighed at the conclusion of the last tournament. The base entry money will roll over to the next year’s pot. All boats will have to re-enter the following year to be eligible to win. This is in effort to grow the pot for the winner.
- Catch and release scoring will be conducted as follows:
- Blue marlin: 500 points
- White marlin: 75 points
- Sailfish: 50 points
- Unidentified Billfish: 50 points
If a billfish catch and release is verified by the tournament during which it was caught the team will be awarded the appropriate points. If there is a tie the winner will be determined on time- the first team to reach its’ points or the first blue marlin weighed is the winner. All weights from each tournament will be accepted. In the event that any of the sanctioned tournaments run concurrent with one another, releases will not count as double the points just because they counted in multiple tournaments. In other words, one fish is one fish and will be scored accordingly.
Remember if you are registered in the release division, the Gulf Titan does not verify releases! You must have your releases verified by whichever qualifying event that you are fishing. So even if you know you are not in contention to win release in the tournament that you are fishing, get your releases verified by that tournament so that they will count in the final tally for the Gulf Titan!
- Payouts will be mailed within 10 days of the final tournament. All entry and optional money will be paid out in full to the winners minus a 10% administrative fee. Winners must provide a tax ID and address. 1099s will be issued to winners.
